FOP donates $5,000 reward to Chattahoochee Hills
Police Department
for arrest and conviction related to shooting death of Officer Mike Vogt
The Georgia State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police has donated $5,000 in
reward money to the Chattahoochee Hills Police Department to assist in efforts
of apprehending and convicting the person or persons who fatally shot Officer
Mike Vogt, it was announced today by Georgia FOP State President Carlton
Stallings.
According to reports, Vogt died yesterday afternoon after receiving a gunshot
wound while down Vernon Grove Road near Hutcheson Ferry Road in South Fulton
County.
The Georgia FOP dedicates part of its annual budget to a reward fund established
to provide financial support to law enforcement agencies across the state.
"The reason we’re here – the reason the FOP even exists – is to support officers
in this state," Stallings said. "That’s why we set aside reward money. That’s
why we’re working with Sen. Mullis on the Blue Alert Law."
Georgia District 53 State Sen. Jeff Mullis last week sponsored a bill on behalf
of the Georgia FOP that would create a “Blue Alert” system for any instance when
a law enforcement officer has been seriously injured or killed by a criminal.
Similar to the Amber Alert Law, a Blue Alert Law would activate state messaging
systems to notify the public when a police officer has been killed or seriously
injured and the perpetrator is at large.
The Georgia State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police is a nonprofit
organization made up of law enforcement officers volunteering their time for the
betterment of law enforcement and their community. Its 4,000 members are part of
the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, the voice of
those who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities.
